The action at Alavo

August 17 1808, R=Colonel Erikson S=Carl Johan Adlercreutz

As the Swedish summer offensive of 1808 raged on, the situation came to the brink of desperate for the Russian command. The Russians decided to press their advance though, and while the main army was marching along the road to Jyväskylä, a smaller Russian force of about 2.400 troops, led by a colonel Erikson, was sent north through the village of Alavo. Adlercreutz met up with his 3.800 Swedish troops and an engagement was fought, in which the Russians were defeated. Again the Russian main army had to withdraw before the Swedish offensive.
