My mom drove a 900 Turbo 16 -84 for a bit over a year. It was gonna be my project car later on, but she decided to sell it in late 2001. This one really kicked.
The car at home we had for almost 2½ years was a 900i Special
-87 . It's a dark red 3-door model which is very handy..the enormous
trunk will take almost anything. Believe me, seen some amazed people quite
a few times.
For it's age the 900 was and is in excellent condition,
thanks to the previous two owners how have taken well car of it. The last
owner had it for about 10 years. When we sold it it had 367 000 km on it
(August 2000). The paint and interior are in good shape and there's no rust
to speak of, and mechanically the engine and everything else is in
excellent condition. Actually the transmission was about to be rebuilt,
but it turned out that only the gear-mover that goes from the shifter to
the transmission was worn out. Now it's running fine again.
Saab 9000i CC 1989, 2.0 L engine. A nice and safe car that is lots of fun to drive. It had some 248 000 km on it when we sold it. I liked this car as it's got lots of interior space and the trunk is big too. Very low fuel consumption. But I wouldn't have minded if it was fitted with a Turbo engine ;)
My mom drove a 99 GL -82 about 2 years ago, but it started to rust away piece by piece so another car had to be found, so we got the 900 T16 -84. See pic above.
Saab 900i 5-door, 1985. Sold this one about 6 years ago when we traded it for the 9000. Had high mileage when we got it, but it was driven long-distance only. 340 000 km's when we sold it. The car is still at the same owner and it's run 420 000 km now and nothing is yet done to the engine and transmission. Pretty strong.
Saab 90 1985, one of the most trouble-free Saab's we've had. Nice red color and low mileage, but we had to sell as we got ourselves a dog. (picture to come)
Saab 96 V4 1974 (two of them), 1.5 L engine. Chrome bumpers, red-brown color. Pretty nice looking beast. Had it for some years and then the transmission got somehow jammed, but the engine was excellent. Now a friend of mine has it (among 20 other Saab 96). The second one was sold as it had too much rust and we didn't want to fix it.Yup, that's me in the picture.
Saab 99 GL 2-door 1980, 2.0 L B-engine. Very economic car as it did run on both gasoline and petroleum. But the smell was awful. You can still see some fake 99 Petros around with an extra cork next to the license plate. There was also a switch on the console for choosing what kind of gas to use. Actually the engine was almost the same as 99 Turbo's, so some people made Turbos out of these after petroleum got rare. The car had run 340 000 km's when we sold it and nothing was done to the engine or tranny. The picture is from the mid/late 80's, during a ski trip to Ylläs in Lapland.
Saab 96 V4 Super 1980, 1.5 L engine. This was our first Saab. It was only
a few years old when we bought it, but already had some rust on it. And
no wonder as a farmer had it before us and he'd carried humid fertilizer
in the trunk. But we got a good deal and sold it after a few years. (picture
to come as soon as I find one)
